Well, this is probably a Norwegian girl knitting, because we don't have any mountains in Denmark! Barely anything that could be dignified by the name of 'hill!' But anyway, I'm on a sort of 'danish' binge, reconnecting with my roots, remembering my relatives, etc. Brushing up on my danish: "Jeg er en dansker," dragging out my danish embroideries and hanging them on the walls, etc.
Looking for other danes to converse with, cook with, and possibly KNIT with...but it all seems to be a pipe-dream: there seem to be no danskers in the bay area! Well, I've met two so far and they are both interested in getting together just to be danish with someone else.
You'll be hearing more from me about this for some time to come. For example, reading occasional sentences in Danish, like "Jeg elsker dig!" and such, because I always lose my mind around this time of year, and if no where else, I can speak danish on my weblog.
Bela is curious about this turn of events, asking 'What's happened to you, mommie? Have you gone nuts? Who has ever even heard of the Danish? Who's going to want to read your blog now?...And by the way, what is this little ceramic replica of me doing here? I can't even bite it! Is someone trying to be cute?': "Bela, you must be having a bad day, dear. Calm down, everything's all right. And if anything is cute, it's you!"

Well I'm not danish but I am fascinated with the knitting from the entire region. And I've read Hamlet. Does that make us compatriots?
: )

i'm currently living in copenhagen, and am wondering if you know of a place to find a sourcebook for traditional danish patterns and motifs (or a more general scandinavian selection)? something like a photo-book of textiles and patterns...do you know if any such book exists, or where i might find something similar? thanks!! :)
