Summer-TIME
"Ti-i-ime is on my mind!" (though not necessarily 'on my side,' as the dear Righteous Brothers, once upon a time, sang.) And the South Indian Wisdom Goddess of Time is KALI, so this issue is dedicated to Her, as if burnt black by the Summer Sun, She is black as the Night of All Unknowing, the fierce yet gentle Mother who protects us from the excesses of the Ego.
Sticking out her tongue at us, (rudely by Western standards), she is trying to tell us that it is all a Play - a 'Showing' - a 'Drama' enacted by God in which God takes many forms, forgets he or she is God, and then has many adventures finding the way back to realizing the infinite Love, Knowledge and Potential within each one of us. The 'Goal' of Life!
The Fullness of Life, as Summer is the Fullness of the Year!
Kala means 'Time' and Kali is the destroyer of Time, and hence the destroyer of Death. David Frawley writes in "Tantric Yoga," "Time, as we are all forced to understand, is the foremost of the powers which governs the universe." Mayan 'astrology' is based entirely on solar and lunar calendars which mark out the changing Day-Signs.

"Kali is the Goddess who symbolizes (the) spiral process whereby we grow and evolve into that which goes beyond all form and change." Kali is a goddess because, "Time is a living field, a conscious energy, a matrix and a vortex. Time is the great womb and hence has a feminine quality." Time gives birth to us all!
"Time is the working out of a conscious intelligence, not a mere mathematical concept but the very stuff of our experience, the rhythm of our lives."
"The life-force manifests through the blood. Hence Kali is associated with blood. She is life ever renewing itself."
Let us enjoy the renewal of Life around us, and of our own precious lives, during the restful, playful interlude of Summer. Articles in this Summer issue will touch on the topic of Time in particular, with the phase of Flowering also featured. Let us all make the most of our Time on Earth. Wishing you a Happy Summer.
